Firefox 3.0: How To Manually Hide Your IP

FirefoxFirexfox 3.0 is no longer in beta release! On 17 of June, a.k.a Download Day, more than 8 milion users have downloaded the new version of Firefox. It is a World Record hard to beat in the near future. Well done, guys! :)

Now, let’s see how to configure Firefox 3.0 to hide your IP address. The good news is that the configuration is similar to the one of Firefox 2.x. So, if you have read one of my previous posts, How To Hide Your IP While Browsing Using Firefox 2.x, you already know how to do it. For those who don’t, here are the steps…

First, go to WhatIsMyIPAddress.com and check your real IP address and location.

Then, you have to find a proxy server (IP:port).  For example, you can choose one from SamAir.ru or Proxy4Free.com. You are probably interested in changing your country, but you also must ne careful to choose a high anonymous proxy.

After you have chosen the proxy you can start configuring your Firefox 3.0 browser.

Here is what you have to do next:

  1. Open Firefox 2.0
  2. Go to Tools -> Options…
    Firefox 3.0
  3. Choose Network tab and press Settings button
    Firefox 3.0 Internet Config
  4. In the Connection Settings window, check Manual proxy configuration:Fill in proxy info
  5. In the same window, fill in the HTTP Proxy and the Port taken from the above proxy list (e.g. 216.114.194.19: 6588 where the IP address of the proxy is 216.114.194.19 and the port is 6588) (take a look to the previous picture).
  6. Press Ok and then Ok again and you are done.

After the configuration is completed go to WhatIsMyIPAddress.com and check your new IP address. You can now browse anonymously using Firefox 3.0.

Important! Do not forget to change your Connection Settings from Manual proxy configuration to Direct connection to the internet, after you are done with your activites under hidden ip.

Happy Surfing!

P.S. Are you looking for premium proxies? Here is what I recommend: Anonymous Proxies.

    @anomity – The problem with this hide ip method is that depends on proxies found on proxy lists sites (e.g. proxy4free). Unfortunately, most of these proxies are unusable.
