Problem: If you are not from US and you try watching full episodes of NBC shows you get the following message: “We’re sorry, but the clip you selected isn’t available from your location. Please select another clip.“ What can you do about it?
Solution: Simple! Change your IP address to an US one. Next, I’ll show how you can do this using Hotspot Shield.
In order to get NBC’s streaming video player running on your computer, you have to:
- Sign up for a NBC video account. Just go to http://my.nbc.com/accounts/registeremail and fill in your email address and then set up a password
- Temporarily, change your system time to Arizona or Mountain time. The location is important because Hotspot Shield servers are located there. This has to be done in order to trick NBC servers that you’re using a computer in the continental United States.
- Start Hotspot Shield. Here is a post on how to install and use Hotspot Shield.
- When you start the NBC video player again it will ask for your location in the United States and for a zip code. Important! The system pairs up that zip code with a specific service provider. In order to obtain a valid zip code jost google “(any city) zip code” or take one from here.
- You are done! You should be able to watch everything NBS is streaming.
Enjoy!

Update: If Hotspot Shield does not work for you, then check a premium VPN service like HideIpVPN, HideMyAss or IAPS Security. Services.

I don’t know what I am doing..
I am in England so when I make an account do I say I live in the UK or the US? And how do I change my IP address using hotspot shield?
@Grant: It does not matter if you say that you live in UK or US. The important thing is that you change your time zone before you login using Hotspot Shield.
Regarding the second question: Hotspot Shield hides your IP by driving your traffic to servers located in the US (using VPN technology). So, you will be seen as leaving in US and your real IP will be hidden.
What about FOX.com? I followed the steps outlined for NBC above, but FOX doesn’t give you an opportunity to enter a zip code. What then?
@Scott Piro – I’m not sure how to do it for Fox, but I try to find out and write a post about this.
@Scott Piro – It seems that you have to delete your cookies before turning Hotspot Shield on. I will write a post about this tomorrow.
Is there anyway to do this with Sci-Fi?
@Lewis – I am not sure. I’ll try to find an answer and let you know the result.
BTW, I never deleted cookies, but I did get this to work on HULU. It worked on Fox.com, accept not really – I was able to circumvent the I.P. issue, but the player wouldn’t play.
But HULU worked fine, and I am caught up on 24! I’ll post about ABC.com and LOST tonight. Great forum!
@Scott – You should read http://www.how-to-hide-ip.info/2009/03/09/how-to-watch-foxcom-streaming-video-using-hotspot-shield/ to see how to solve the player issues for Fox.com.
Thanks!
@Scott – You’re welcome!
Hi, again -
Having the same problem with ABC.com now.
I’m not blocked. Your time-zone-change/Hotspot Shield/delete-cookies recipe gets me to the player just fine.
It’s just that after watching the intro advertisement, it gets infinitely stuck “loading…” with the cursor just showing that stupid Vista spinning wheel.
This probably has more to do with my machine more than anything else, right? I’m wireless with 3 GB of RAM. I think that would be enough.
Any thoughts? THX
@Scott – I don’t think it your internet connection. It must ne something else. Maybe the Hotspot Shield server was a little bit busy. Please let me know if you have solved the problem.
hello there. I am in the Uk and have just downloaded the Hotspot Shield, hoping that I will be able to tune into ITV and BBC whilst in the US – formula 1 is approaching !! Any ideas if this will work?? It would not let me in last night until I switched off the Hotspot Shield ……….. what am I doing wrong?? Help please. Thanks. Barbara.
@barbara sexton – I am not sure. I’ll take a look and let you know.

@Patrick – There are several articles on this blog about Hotspot Shield and some of them are indeed “inspired” (as you say) from your blog. I’ll add your blog as source of the article. Thank you!
I appreciate that, Admin. Have a nice day.
