CNET News: Bush signs law promoting censorship of kids’ programming

President Bush has signed on Tuesday the Child Safe Viewing Act that requires Federal Communications Commission to explore advanced technologies that allow parents to censor their children.

In my opinion, the measures FCC will propose will have a negative effect on children. There always be ways to bypass content-blocking technologies. Take for example filters installed in schools. There are maybe millions of web proxies that allow students access the desired web sites. Imposing more and more restrictions is not the right way of educating children.

Anyway, I feel that not children education is the main goal of this law, but censorship. This law is just one more step towards no privacy at all.

What’s next? What do you think?
