VPN4Life is a scam
TorrentFreak reports that anonymous BitTorrent service VPN4Life is a scam.
VPN4Life claims they were about to offer a fast, 128 bit encrypted, fully unlimited and anonymous PPTP service for one payment of $50.00 through PayPal. If genuine, the offer would have been very good as reputable VPN services offering fast transfer speeds and unlimited transfers costs around $10 to $20 per month.
Anyway, this was proved to be a scam. For $50 customers receive a file, ‘VPN 4 Life PC.exe’, that installs … Hotspot Shield, which is already available for free from AnchorFree.com.
The scammers at VPN4Life simply renamed the intallation file of Hotspot Shield. The confirmation came when the two files were checked using the MD5 checksum and proved to be identical.
As in other scam schemes the refund policy is clear: “No refunds will be given if you are dissatisfied with our services“, but you can complain to PayPal and you probably get your money back.
