Q&A: Is Easy-Hide-IP a fraud?

Ronald, one of my readers, sent me an email yesterday regarding Easy-Hide-IP, a tool that I recommend on my Hide IP Tools page. He considers that this product is a fraud. To get more info on this issue I have contacted Easy-Hide-IP team. Below you can read both the email from Ronald and Easy-Hide-IP position. Finally, it is for you to decide whether Easy-Hide-IP is a fraud or not.

I just tested the software Easy-Hide-IP and found out it is a fraud. Please provide users with this information. Because this tool is listed among your Hide IP tools.

Easy-Hide-IP is nothing else then a software that has TOR embedded. It uses the TOR Service and wants the user to pay money. When you download it, it’s a free ‘Trial’.

But TOR is already completely free. To reproduce this, just install Easy-Hide-IP and then go to:

http://check.torproject.org/

There you can see that you are then just using TOR.

Here is what Easy-Hide-IP team has to say about this:

First of all thank you for the feedback. We appreciate all the comments regarding our product.

Easy-Hide-IP is a tool that allows you to hide the ip address and its functioning is partially based on TOR as your visitor mentioned.

The trial version allows access only to public – and very few private proxies. Registered users have access to private proxies (based on tor (as protocol) + encryption protocol).

Actually we plan a new release in February where only private proxies will be used. We will let you know when this release is available.

Regarding our product as being a fraud – anyone can have an opinion. What we can say is that we have help thousands of users to have online privacy in a very convenient way (easy to install and use). That is a fact and we are proud about it.

Best Regard,

Easy-Hide-IP Team.

Now, it is for you to decide whether this is a fraud or not. Personally, I find Easy-Hide-IP a very nice and easy to use tool.

What do you think about Easy-Hide-IP? Have you used it? Is it a fraud?

I am more interested if a the tool really hides your IP or not. It does not matter if it uses Tor.

@widi – It’s not a good idea to use a hide IP software for click ads. If you are talking about Google Adsense ads, you risk to get your account suspended as Google detects most of the proxies.

Regarding InvisibleIPMap tool, it seems that it is not supported anymore (last time I cheked).

@mael – As far as I know Easy-Hide-IP automatically configures Firefox. If it don’t do it for you, you should write to the Easy-Hide-IP support.

    @James cowerton

I just installed the trial version and googled “what is my ip address” and clicked on every link on the first results page. Every single one of them showed the IP I had selected to use in Easy Hide IP. Seems legit.

It worked for about a day with the free trial, but then the firefox extension disabled itself and won’t work without it.

Still working for me. It worked for the 3 day trial so I went ahead and paid the 30 bucks for 1 year. Just checked on two sites, they say I’m at an IP in Switzerland – I’m definitely not ;) I don’t expect something like this to be an infallible source of anonymity, just one more layer that anyone who really wants to would have to dig through.

It doesn’t work with firefox for some reason and i have emailed them. However with chrome it works like a champ! I’d buy if it worked with firefox. Much better than others i’ve tried.

  13. Posted June 29, 2011 at 2:15 am | Permalink

I had the same problem, worked fine on Google Chrome, but my Firefox recently stopped hiding my IP (I own the program). I contacted Peter at customer support, which rocks at getting right back to your inquiries and was told they were aware of the issue (it’s worked perfect for me for the last two years until this happened recently) and they were in the process of having to update the program as when Firefox recently updated, it seemed to try to ‘lock out’ the ability to hide your IP with the program.

In any event, true to their word, their new version works great and I just don’t allow Firefox to do any ‘updates’ anymore. Customer support didn’t say whether it worked on Google Chrome, but when I tried it, it did, though my preference is Firefox so I use that.

No, I don’t have stock in the company, but I have tried many other services, and Easy-Hide-IP is the best, most affordable one I’ve found yet & I highly recommend it to everyone concerned with privacy, including my own website’s visitors and members at http://www.Colorado-CHRONIX.com. It hides your online activity from snooping ISP’s too, all they see on their logs is your connection to whatever IP address you’ve chosen to use, and NOT the websites you visit.

Sure, if someone really wants to find out who you are, I’m sure they can do it using modern technology techniques, but like the above poster mentioned, to me it also just adds a ‘layer of protection’ that one must go through and their more likely to just move on to another user who ISN’T running a cloaking software.

    Two thumbs up…

No worries, as I’ve said previously I went through the same problem and while Easy-Hide-IP issues updates to their program, Firefox attempts to stop people from hiding their IP’s by updating the Firefox browser and stop the Easy-Hide-IP program from working properly.

To get around this & that being said, just do what I’ve done and you should be just fine. You can either:

    1. Use Google Chrome, which seems to work with no problems right now. Just don’t let it ever update and you should be okay with it as well.

    2. Or you can download all kinds of older versions of Firefox here:

    http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php

Hope that helps and remember, when you get it working regardless of whether you choose to use Chrome OR Firefox, always say ‘NO’ to any new browser updates. I even go into my browsers options and disable the automatic update functions completely, just to be on the safest side.

I love the program and I use servers from all around the world, which is funny because when I go to my Yahoo homepage, it’s always in a different language and looks bizarro. But at the top of EVERY Yahoo page from any country, on the upper right hand of the page it has a little ‘Go to Yahoo.com’ which leads you to their main homepage, which is in English, just to let you know… ;)

Another thing I’ve discovered from playing around with the latest version of Easy-Hide-IP is the coolest new feature that they just put into their latest update – that everyone needs who wants total IP anonymity. Just click on the ‘Program Settings’ button at the top right of Easy-Hide-IP and a window will open up for you that allows you to AUTOMATICALLY route ANY program (like Torrent programs OR even different unlisted browsers, like Avant, etc., ) DIRECTLY through your Easy-Hide-IP application, which is by far the best available option *ever* – so you’re no longer limited to hiding your IP using only Firefox or Google Chrome anymore! Plus, it ensures that ANY program that you have, goes through an anonymous Easy-Hide-IP server, if you want, every time the program is opened and run, so your’ identity is concealed from hackers (or anybody else for that matter). I run ALL of my software right through myEasy-Hide-IP program for maximum peace of mind in the increasingly snooping environment that our world is becoming. I also check the ‘Change IP Every 10 Minutes’ button so every ten minutes (which is just fine for security, time-wise and won’t slow your machine down), although if you’re just being mega-cautious it can be adjusted right down to change your IP address every 1 minute if you want from whatever country you’ve chosen.

Oh, and something else I’ve noticed is that, if you really want to, you can buy and run several copies of the Easy-Hide-IP program on top of each other, which gives you some really interesting effects location-wise and totally just confuses the crap out of sites that show you your IP address on… :) Perfect program – out the massive slew of all the IP hiding software I’ve ever tried out there & I’m OBVIOUSLY way beyond being just slightly satisfied with using Easy-Hide-IP… Does what I need and with the latest version out, now even more so.

For awesome additional results, you can also do another little thing I choose to do, to help provide an additional layer of protection, by downloading a *FREE* little utility program called RestartOnCrash from here:

    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Restart-on-Crash-Download-164468.html

…which you can use to automatically restart Easy-Hide-IP in the unlikely event that it crashes for some reason while you are away from your computer. How cool is THAT…! I just recently thought about trying to find such a tool to use originally for my Antivirus software so I’d be protected in case it crashed while I was away to avoid having my machine exposed to viruses and found it to be the perfect, not to mention -free- compliment to my edition of Easy-Hide-IP.

Hope this helps and let me know if you need any more help with it…!

Btw, to do an indeed ‘true IP cloaking test’ to see whether or not ANY program works is easy; simply run the Easy-Hide-IP software and then proceed to send yourself an email (from wherever, Yahoo!, Gmail, or from your machine using Outlook, etc.). Then merely check all of the IP’s you find in the full headers, with you as the test recipient. If your IP’s from your email aren’t your own (use http://www.whatismyip.com to do a quick check to see what your real IP is when your NOT running the program), then you can be reasonably certain that your program is indeed functioning correctly.

Not only is “Easy-Hide-IP” NOT a fraud in the slightest, it is the ONLY software I have ever bought that actually works and actually HIDES YOUR IP like it’s supposed to do.
You people who are bashing it, clearly have something wrong with you in the head. It is RENOWNED for the speed, agility and accuracy and it does everything it says claims to do. Namely, Hides Your IP address effectively. Go read all the positive reviews on their page from others. I have tried EVERY other hide the IP software and none of them work. Easy-Hide is the ONLY one that does. And I’m a cynic with things like this. And no – I do NOT work for them, smart-asses.

Huh, I don’t know. If you open up the program window does it say you are connected to another server? If so, maybe try connecting to a different one, particularly maybe a different one in a different country – do you see the list of servers to choose from in different countries? Also, if you go under settings or something like that you may see an option to choose what programs to apply it to, so make sure you have your browser checked.

Hope it helps. Still works for me, don’t know about anybody else.

@Tim – Hmm, well “meetups” on meetup.com can get sponsored by whoever, I don’t know if that means much. Its not like he’s selling it on that site, its a meetup for medical marijuana or something? Not “chroix”, “chronix”, as in “the chronic,” as in, “the good shit.” I sort of doubt the guy running a meetup about “chronic” is also running an IP hiding scam but whatevs.

I see this was written in 2009, a lot has changed since then. There was a slight update in 2010 and I have recently downloaded the most recent version from easy-hide-ip. I have been using it for a long time, for a short while I used the free version but eventually got the paid version.
In the newer version, it does not show up as you using Tor on http://check.torproject.org/ .
It’s also very relieving to not have to go manually change your settings in fireox for your proxy, as the newer one does it for you by allowing you to choose the .exe file for a program and encrypting it’s connection to the internet.
A lot of people use Tor or easy-hide but they don’t realize that they defeat their anonymity by revealing stuff like email, therefore it is important to also utilize things like temporary anonymous email addresses.
All in all, I love it and run it 24 hours a day, with some changes to my privacy settings in my browser. Always on the lurkmoar.

@seth – Definitely agree with Seth, although this article is two years old, so it may have performed differently in that time.

The program works very well, easily one of the best proxy programs around. The difference between this and Tor, which I’m also a frequent user of, is the speed. Tor can be insanely slow at times, but Easy Hide IP’s speed is usually decent. Auto Hide IP is another I’d recommend. Hide IP platinum works, but it’s very slow.
