Alon Web never worked for me. I tried also Free VPN and Ultra VPN. Free. Free VPN is an adware, possibly a spyware and Ultra VPN is terribly slow.
What I’m using now is http://www.SecurityKISS.com. It’s fast, reliable and what’s important really simple to use. Just download, install and click connect.

@Kevin - There is a comparison of available free VPN's and it's open to new submissions for review. TorVPN seems to be the new way to go. It too gives a GB of quota, and there is no filter for HTTPS. See this: TorVPN free VPN. The very nice thing about it is, you don't have to install custom software or anything suspicious. You can use it with your existing OpenVPN installation.

It works fine with web browsing, and works for non-SSL access to email (POP3), but SSL accessed mailboxes including gmail and y7mail fail “cannot connect to server”. This may be a problem that can be fixed with mail server tweaking, but the support desk at Alonweb is, unsurprisingly, effectively non-existent.

The free service is not intended for high use protocols like streaming video and BitTorrent.
