Your IP address on Wolfram|Alpha

On 18th of May, Wolfram|Alpha, a “computational knowledge engine” from Wolfram Research, was officially launched.  The goal of Wolfram|Alpha, as stated on the home page, is “to make all systematic knowledge immediately computable and accessible to everyone.”  This means that you ask a question and Wolfram|Alpha gives you the answer – along with a lot of related information.

The engine stores contains 10+ trillion of pieces of data, 50,000+ types of algorithms and models, and linguistic capabilities for 1000+ domains, which is very impresive. I was curious to see what is the result that Wolfram|Alpha returns for ‘ip address’. And, to my surprise, it shows not only a lot of information regarding your IP address like:

• organization
• location
• coordinates
• city population
• local time
• local weather
• a map showing your location
• nearby larger cities (distance and population)
• address properties
• IPv6 address
