‘What’s my IP address’ is a new Firefox add-on provided by MyIPTest.com that displays your external IP address. If you are using a proxy or an hide ip tool the add-on will show IP address of the proxy, the one that is seen by the sites you visit.

The add-on is very useful as it shows your external IP address all the time while you are browsing. You are be able to see when you are no longer hidden when the proxy or the hide IP tool that you are is failing for whatever reason. Plus you are able to see detailed information regarding the IP address you are using.
Here are the steps to perform in order to start using ‘What’s my IP address’:
- Go to the add-on home page using Firefox
- Click on “Let me install this experimental add-on” checkbox (the add-on is still young)
- Click on “Add to Firefox” button
- Install the add-on
- After Firefox is restarted you’ll see to the bottom right side of Firefox the IP address you are using and info about the proxy, ISP, country, etc. (I took the screenshot while using Hotspot Shield)
- After you start using a hide IP tool you’ll have to check your new IP address by clicking on “Get external IP now” menu.
To sum up, I would say that ‘What’s my IP address’ add-on is a must-have for those using Firefox while browsing anonymously.
