How to unblock Hulu with Hide-My-IP 2009

Hulu has some nice video content but it is only available for US viewers. As Hulu has blocked Hotspot Shield IPs, other solutions have to found to be able to watch your favorites shows. I am going to show how to use Hide-My-IP 2009 to access Hulu from outside US.

If you live outside US and try to access Hulu you get the following message:

Hide-My-IP 2009 can be used to access Hulu or any other site that is restricted outside the US.

Here are the steps you have to follow to see video content from Hulu:

  1. Download Hide-My-IP 2009.
  2. Install and start Hide-My-IP 2009
  3. The next step is to Start Hiding IP and find a suitable proxy to be able to unlock Hulu. You need a US IP address so press the Refresh button until you get one.

    hide_my_ip_main
  4. Check your IP address on www.myiptest.com to make sure you are browsing with US IP address
  5. Goto to Hulu.com and start the video you want to see.

I tried the hide-my-ip trial, and I can’t say I can recommend it. Hulu kept buffering so it was impossible to watch the video. Also as usual with these things, it only worked for one view, next time it didn’t matter that I clear out the browser completely (I even clear out the flash LSO’s). With 5 minutes left of the video, Hulu froze aswell. I’d say at this point, this option is worse that HotSpot Shield – with that I at least could watch a whole video without interruption (only worked once).

You are right! Hide-My-IP does change your IP but it does not work very well with Hulu. I tried several times, it worked with some IPs but with most it didn’t.

Yeah, if you just want regular browsing that is secure – use Ultrasurf, it’s the fastest and easiest by far and works for almost everything else except Hulu. Theoretically, shouldn’t it be possible to block the IP check? I know too little about how hulu checks to know for sure – I want to dig into it, but I don’t know where to start…

@Nea – Actually, Hulu blocks certain IPs (for example IPs used by HotSpot Shield) and it is able to detect many proxies. The IP check unfortunately it can not be blocked.

Well, I am aware of that, but the question is how. I’m just curious.

@Zeepax – It won’t work after the trial expires. You’ll have to by the license or find another tool.
