P2P: Largest Court Case Against Copyright Breach Has Been Cancelled

Probably a lot of you will be interested in the news that over 23 thousands of Internet users will avoid court case. As we have read at “Dziennik Internautów” court in Columbia District has ruled that can trial only people who are residing in Columbia District.
This means for copyright owners and their lawyers that it would have to get exact addresses of all people, whose computers has been identified by their IP addresses, as the machines that downloaded copy of the movie. In another words it could be not one big case but 50 cases in all states of US in Columbia District and Puerto Rico. This means that costs involved would be way higher than anticipated.

After that decision made by court 99% of people identified has been scratched from the case. When that happened film studio Nu Image (together with author of the movie) has decided not to sue any one at all.

It is hard to say how this ruling will change (and if at all) the ways copyright owners and companies behave against Internet users downloading protected materials. On one hand it might be way to expensive to sue everyone if it always has to be done in the right court. It might be especially struggle for smaller companies to pay for such large amount of court cases. But on the other hand it would be unreasonable to expect (as DI states) that this sort of trials will cease to exist.

In my own opinion the best way to fight piracy is to actually offer a choice to people. Services like Spotify, Hulu and Netflix are the very best examples. Why would anyone want to download illegal materials if they can be listened to or watched for a reasonable amount of money.

All we need is for the highly demanded materials to reach them sooner (or at all) and for copyright owners to understand that by opening them to the world they will gain not loose.

Now, it is like never ending fight and all that one has to do to download stuff safely is to hide IP, which all of you who read our posts know is dead simple.
